Steps to Buying Your First Home

Updated: Nov 20, 2019

Hello! Welcome to my very first blog post. Bare with me while I feel this whole writing thing out. A little about me before I get in to the steps to buying your first home.

My name is Lauren. I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I have lived all over the state through childhood (Central MA), college (Western MA) and on to Boston to begin my professional career. I met my husband while living in Boston. He is from Pennsylvania and in the U.S. Air Force. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and have worked in this field for almost 10 years now. When my husband, two labs, and I moved to the South Shore, I was looking for a job that did not require driving into the city every day. I love helping people. So I figured, what is a good way to help people AND stay close to home? Real estate baby!

I've had my license for a few years but hadn't done much with it! I joined Keller Williams Signature Properties when we moved. So here I am...diving head first into real estate. But here's the thing. I don't just want to help you or someone you know facilitate a real estate transaction and say "Enjoy! See you when you move next!". I want to be a resource for you; whether it be someone relocating to the state, finding the best investment opportunity, or helping to navigate the market to buy your first home. I want to be able to provide the best experience for my clients while providing useful tips and tools to make your new house feel like a home.

By starting this blog, I aim to provide useful tips and tricks to being a homeowner. Being a new homeowner myself and mostly renovating our whole house on our own within the last year, I know we have made mistakes. We have some great family and friends who have helped us along the way with helpful advice. I hope you find this useful. I also love feedback about what types of posts you'd find useful! So feel free to comment and leave some topic suggestions.

SO..after that boring little blurb about ME.... let's talk about you. Are you thinking it might be time to buy your first property but don't know where to start? Here are the initial steps:

1. Figure Out if You're Ready to Buy

2. Start Shopping for a Loan

3. Find the Best Payment Options and Loan Type for You

4. Take a Hard Look At What You Can Actually Afford

5. Get Pre-Approved

6. Find a Good Realtor (Cough cough.. Hello! Give me a Call!)

7. Find A Home You Like

8. Get a Home Inspection

9. Close, move in and ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME!

Check out the link below for a little more in depth look at each step.
